Amelia Hewson sprints at Whitworth Indoor

Pirates Post Wins at Sam Adams Classic

SPOKANE, Wash. – Whitworth University got some wins at its first home meet of the 2022 outdoor track and field season on Saturday. 

Solo Hines, Kainoa Figueira and Amelia Hewson all won events at the Sam Adams Classic.

Hines picked up where he left off from the indoor season with a 10.88 winning time in the men's 100-meter dash.  Figueira won the men's 800-meter run with a time of 1:58.56.  Figueira anchored the men's 4x400 relay to a winning time of 3:28.57. 

Stephen Crupper was fourth in the men's 200-meter dash (23.26) and the Pirates' 4x100 relay finished second with a time of 42.76. 

Samson Irish-Lodge was runner-up in the men's triple jump with a mark of 41'-7.75".  Reed Hurst finished second in the shot put (48'-7.5") and fifth in the discus (144'-0").  Benjamin Brinkley threw the javelin 181'-0" to take second place.

Hewson's win in the 100-meter hurdles highlighted the women's half of the meet for the Pirates.  She crossed in 14.67.  Hewson also helped the Whitworth women post a time of 48.58 in the 4x100 meter relay. 

The Pirate quartet of Carmen Winslow-Gonzales, Alexis Caniglia, Madelyn Buckley and Nikohl Jordan finished second in the 4x400 relay with a time of 4:13.31.

Devyn Cope finished second in the long jump (16'-0.5") and third in the triple jump (33'-7.25").  Renee Tiumalu was runner-up in the shot put (39'-3"). 

Whitworth will be back in action at home again next weekend with the Buc Scoring Invitational and multi-events meet on Thursday and Friday.
