SEATTLE, Wash. – Solo Hines sprinted to a 6.83 to win the men's 60-meter dash and set a new Whitworth team record on Saturday evening at the Seattle Pacific Final Qualifier indoor track and field meet, held at the University of Washington.

Hines posted the fastest preliminary time in the afternoon with a 6.99.  He then dominated the field in the finals as the only athlete to finish under 7.00.  Hines will compete next at the 2022 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships March 11-12 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Amelia Hewson had the meet's fastest preliminary time in the women's 60-meter hurdles in 8.92.  She went faster in the finals to finish in 8.90, but Central Washington's Lauryn Chandler went 8.84 to win the event.  Hewson hopes to also race at the NCAA Div. III Indoor championships.

The Pirate women had a strong showing in the 800-meter run.  Nikohl Jordon won the event with a time of 2:20.00.  Madelyn Buckley finished fourth (2:21.97) and Alexis Caniglia was sixth (2:24.57), giving the Pirates half of the top six finishers.

Kainoa Figueria finished 10th in the men's 800-meter run with a time of 1:57.77.

Whitworth will now turn its attention to outdoor track & field, beginning with the Ed Boitano Invitational next weekend at the University of Puget Sound.
