McGill in 2nd After Day 1 of NWC Combined Events

McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Nick McGill is in second place and Travis Herrera is in third after the first day of the decathlon at the Northwest Conference Combined Event Championships hosted by Linfield College.

Keaton Beckmann of Willamette University leads with 3,700 points through the first five events.

McGill, who ranks third in the nation in the decathlon, has 3,483 points after Day 1. His highest scoring events were the 100-meter dash (11.58), 400-meter dash (51.78) and the long jump (21' 10.25"). He cleared 6' 2" in the high jump and threw 38' 1.25" in the shot put.

Herrera sits in third place after the first day with 3,274 points. He set career bests in the 100-meter dash (11.32), 400-meter dash (50.44) and the shot put (32' 3.75"). His time in the 100m was .29 seconds faster than his previous record. He reached a 20' 10.75" mark in the long jump and cleared 5' 7" in the high jump.

Nathan Dykstra is in fifth place (2,834 points) and Adam Cassidy is in sixth (2,727). Dykstra set career bests in three events, while Cassidy had personal records in four of five events on Monday.  

The Pirates will complete the decathlon with the remaining five events on Tuesday. The remaining events are the 110-meter hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and the 1500-meter run.
