EUGENE, Ore. – Whitworth got one more school record and an event victory on Friday at the Oregon Twilight Track and Field meet at Hayward Field.
Amblessed Okemgbo, nearing the end of her spectacular throwing career, broke her own school record in the discus. She finished third with a distance of 164'-2", breaking the previous mark of 161 feet she set two weeks ago at the NWC Championships.
Okemgbo also finished fourth in the shot put, reaching 46'-6" with Madison Carr sixth (45'-0.25"). Carr went on the take third in the hammer throw with a mark of 171'-4".
Brianna Tira took third place in the women's high jump, clearing a season-best 5'-4.25".
Five Whitworth men just missed season-best marks in each of their races, including London Haley who won the 5,000-meters with a time of 14:55.46. Connor Hylton was runner-up in the 400-meter hurdles in 57.86. Austin May went 10.98 in the 100 dash, Camden Schmidt posted a 22.33 in the 200 dash and Cooper Rolfs finished with a 49.89 in the 400 dash.
Cody Wheeler was the runner-up in the men's javelin throw with a mark of 205'-5" with Brandon Geck (194'-3") taking third. Adam Sessions was runner up in the men's hammer throw with a heave of 184'-7".
Pirate athletes have one more shot to qualify for the 2026 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships next Thursday at the George Fox Last Chance meet.
