McMINNVILLE, Ore. - Brown Emily ran one of the fast 400-meter hurdles times in Whitworth history, leading a handful of Pirate athletes on Saturday at the Linfield Track and Field Open.
Whitworth had five competitors and finished with four first places and one runner-up.
Brown ran the 400 hurdles in 1:01.34, only a quarter second off the school-record time of 1:01.09 set by Elizabeth Mattila in 2011. Brown won the event by nearly four seconds and her time is now the ninth-fastest in NCAA Division III this season. That should put Brown in solid standing to qualify for the 2026 NCAA Division III Championships later this month in Wisconsin.
Each of the other Pirates competed in field events. Devyn Chelin won the women's javelin throw with a distance of 130'-6". Kylie Loveless was runner-up in the shot put with a mark of 39'-8.5". Neither mark was as far as Chelin and Loveless did at last week's NWC Championships.
Tristan Hiller won the men's javelin with a heave of 204'-7", a personal best that now ranks 13th in NCAA Division III. Adam Sessions won the men's hammer throw with a mark of 184'-3".Â
