MOSCOW, Idaho – The Whitworth University track and field team sent a small group of athletes to the University of Idaho Invitational on Saturday and finished the day with three top-three finishers.
Travis Herrera set personal bests in all three of his events, including winning the pole vault with a 14' 9" height. He finished the 110-meter hurdles in 16.22, which was 0.52 seconds faster than his previous best, and ran the 400-meter hurdles in 57.42, a .07 second improvement.
Jesus Gonzalez set a personal best and conference-qualifying time in the 200-meter dash, finishing in 23.03 for eighth place, .01 seconds faster than his previous best.
Luke Davis improved in the discus for the sixth straight meet, throwing 149' 5" for second place. Reed Hurst placed fifth in the discus (135' 11") and sixth in the shot put (45' 7.25"). Stephen Haugland placed third in the hammer throw (159' 7") and sixth in the discus (129' 1").
Marisol Delcid and Carmen Winslow-Gonzalez improved on their season bests in the 400-meter hurdles. Delcid placed eighth (1:11.87) and Winslow-Gonzalez finished ninth (1:12.11).
Lexi Caniglia finished the 800-meter run in 2:26.28 to take seventh place. Madelyn Buckley ran a personal best time in the 1500-meter run, finishing in 5:03.64 for seventh place.
Saylor Anderson was the top Pirate finisher in the javelin, finishing in seventh (105' 0"). Renee Tiumalu had a 36' 2.25" throw in the shot put and AbbieJo Carlson finished with a 133' 2" mark in the hammer throw.
