SPOKANE, Wash. – The Whitworth University track and field team competed at the WAR 14 Meet at Spokane Falls Community College on Saturday in the team's first away meet of the season.
On the women's side, Amelia Hewson placed sixth in the 100-meter hurdles (16.24) and fourth in the 100-meter dash (12.80). Madelyn Buckley competed in her second meet, finishing seventh in the 800-meter run (2:32.58) and sixth in the 1500-meter (5:10.35)
Ellie Shoop placed fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, finishing in a NWC-qualifying time of 12:31.01.
Monica Kaylor had a strong performance in the high jump, clearing a career-high 5' 1" in just her second meet for third place. Madison Peffers placed fourth, also clearing 5' 1".
Keara Simpson tied a season best in the discus, throwing 130' 4" for seventh place, and set a personal record in the shot put (36' 9"). Jamie Copeland placed eighth in the discus (128' 11") and Lauryn Rawls placed 11th with a personal best toss of 124' 11".
Eva Millan finished fourth in the javelin with a career-best and NWC-qualifying mark of 129' 5".
William Glick was one of the top performers on the men's side, taking third in the 800-meter run with a conference-qualifying time of 1:58.21. Kainoa Figueira posted a qualifying time of 2:01.66 in his first attempt at the event.
Two Pirate men posted NWC-qualifying times in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Gregory Anderson set a new personal record (10:36.01) to finish fifth, while Gabe Morales placed sixth (10:43.99).
Kolby Blackler finished sixth in the 110-meter hurdles (15.61) and third in the triple jump (40' 7.5").
Travis Herrera posted a career-best mark in the pole vault, clearing 14' 8.75" for third place. Samson Irish-Lodge competed in the triple jump for the first time this season, finishing second with a NWC-qualifying mark of 41' 3.25".
Figueira, Nick McGill, Herrera and Blackler finished third in the 4x400-meter relay in a time of 3:27.92. Irish-Lodge, Blackler, Logan Wright and Riley Flanagan took third in the 4x100-meter relay (43.87).
McGill finished seventh in the long jump (20' 4.5") and third in the javelin (183' 0"). Benjamin Brinkley placed fifth in the javelin (172' 4").
Luke Davis placed fifth in the discus (146' 7"), improving on his personal record for the fourth straight week in the event.
Coming Up: Whitworth returns to SFCC next week to compete at the Bigfoot Multi-Events. The Pirates also host the Sam Adams Classic next weekend.
