Box Score REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat visiting Whitworth 3-2 in a seven-inning non-conference baseball game on Sunday.
The Pirates finish their four-game trip to California with a record of 2-2 and are 7-3 heading into next weekend's Northwest Conference series against Whitman College. The Bulldogs improved to 6-4.
Whitworth got on the board in the top of the first by loading the bases with nobody out. Ben Wintringer scored when Jaxsen Sweum grounded into a double play.
Liam Fitzpatrick's RBI single in the top of the sixth drove in Dawson Warner and gave the Bucs a 2-0 lead.
Max Clark tied the game in the bottom of the sixth with a two-run home run off Jake Briones. The Pirates had a chance to break the game open in the top of the seventh after loading the bases. But Chris Hardin came on to record the final out of the inning.
The Bulldogs scored the winning run with one out in the bottom of the seventh. Esteban Nakashima doubled and scored on Mark Kirkland's single.
Landon Shigeta threw five scoreless innings in his first start as a Pirate. He scattered three hits and had three strikeouts with a walk. Connor Grytdal suffered the loss in relief.
Warner was the only Pirate with two hits.
Michael Rishebarger started on the mound for Redlands and went six innings, allowing two runs on five hits. Hardin (1-0) got the win in relief.
