Whitworth Posts 2-0 Shutout of L&C

Box Score

MILWAUKIE, Ore. – Tyson Yamane and Evan Norden combined on a six-hit shutout and Whitworth University took advantage of its only two hits to defeat Lewis & Clark College 2-0 in a non-conference baseball game on Saturday evening at Milwaukie High School.

The Pirates won all three games in Oregon over the weekend to improve to 5-1 this season.  The Pioneers dropped to 1-5.

Jarred Yara singled with one out in the second inning and moved to third on a pair of wild pitches.  Connor Johnson's sacrifice fly drove him in for the game's first run.

Caleb Morton led off the fifth inning with a triple and scored on a wild pitch a few tosses later.

Yara had Whitworth's only other hit in the game.

But that was enough for Yamane and Norden.  Yamane went seven innings, scattering five hits and three walks.  He struck out seven Pioneers and improved to 1-0 this season.  Norden tossed two scoreless innings of relief, giving up only one hit and one walk, to earn his first career save as a Pirate.

Whitworth will head back to Southern California next weekend to play a three-game series at Occidental College and a single game at Redlands.
