Box Score SPOKANE, Wash. – Lewis-Clark State College pulled away for an 86-74 win over Whitworth University in a non-conference men's basketball game on Saturday morning.
The visiting Warriors (4-0), ranked 7th in the latest NAIA basketball poll, earned their second win in as many days against the Pirates. The game was an exhibition for the NCAA Div. III Bucs.
Whitworth battled attrition as much as the visitors on Saturday. One starter and two reserves from Friday night's 65-62 thriller had to leave before Saturday's game started to make a flight, and forward Liam Fitzgerald, who had eight points, six rebounds and two steals at halftime, left before the start of the second half. A roster of 20 players was down to nine available bodies during the second half of the game.
The Pirates jumped out to a 10-0 lead before LCSC scored the next 12. The first half featured eight lead changes, the final one on Rowan Anderson's running three-pointer from 30 feet at the buzzer.
The Warriors held Whitworth to only 34.5% shooting and finished with a 21-9 edge in rebounding in the second half to outscore the Bucs 42-29.
Anderson led Whitworth with 18 points, while Tanner Fogle scored a dozen off the bench. Miguel Lopez added ten, but only scored one point after halftime due to foul trouble.
Travis Yenor led LCSC with 21 points, while Oreon Courtney added 14 off the bench. Brock Henry and Damek Mitchell scored 11 each.
Whitworth is schedule to open Northwest Conference play on January 22nd. The opponent and location will be announced later.
