MOSCOW, Idaho – The Whitworth track and field team continued the indoor season competing at the Idaho Open hosted by the University of Idaho in the Kibbie Dome on Thursday.
Whitworth had nine top-ten finishes with three Pirates finishing among the top-five in their events.
Amelia Hewson and Madison Peffers both qualified for the finals in the 60-meter hurdles, each posting personal bests. Hewson nearly set a Whitworth indoor record, placing fourth with a time of 9.25, just .01 seconds behind the record set by Izzy Clark last year.
Peffers finished seventh with a time of 9.35, beating her performance at the Vandal Open by nearly half a second. She set another personal best in the high jump, clearing 5' 3.75" to tie for fourth place. Peffers' jump ranks her at 20th in the nation in the event.
Kameha Medallada finished eighth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.98. She tied her career-high in the preliminaries with a 7.90 mark, just .02 seconds behind the school record set in 2003. This time places her at 19th on the indoor national list.
Medallada also placed in the 200-meter, taking seventh with a time of 26.12, .02 seconds behind the school record she set at the 2018 SPU Final Qualifier (26.10).
Becky George finished seventh in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:55.25 in her first Pirate meet.
Nick McGill had two top-ten finishes on the men's side. He finished seventh in the long jump with a 21-foot leap, his new personal-best in indoor competition, and cleared 6' 1.25" in the high jump for eighth place.
Samson Irish-Lodge placed third of four competitors in the triple jump with a 44' ¾" mark.
The team will head to the west side at the end of the month to compete in the UW Invitational.
