DuPONT, Wash. – Reilly Hegarty and Sam Stiles each finished one under par to lead Whitworth to a tie for second place at the season-opening Pacific Lutheran Collegiate Open on Saturday and Sunday at The Home Course.
Fraser Valley (B.C.) won the tournament with a score of 563, 20 strokes ahead of Whitworth and Pacific Lutheran. Grays Harbor CC (585) finished fourth. Travis Bossio of Grays Harbor earned medalist honors after shooting 66-70 – 136 (-8).
Hegarty (70-73 – 143) and Stiles (73-70 – 143) posted mirror scores to finish -1 and in a tie for 8th place. Caleb Belton (73-75 – 148) tied for 14th and Will Alexander (73-77 – 150) tied for 21st.
Whitworth will return to action in two weeks when the Pirates play at the Linfield Fall Invitational.
