FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Visiting Whitworth fell 1-0 to Pacific (Ore.) in a Northwest Conference men's soccer match on Saturday afternoon at Hansen Stadium.
Trenton Zimmermann's goal in the 52nd minute moved the Boxers to 2-3-2 overall and 2-1-2 in the NWC. In a similar fashion to Wednesday's match at Whitman, the Pirates (2-5-1, 0-3-1 NWC) played a strong defensive match and battled to the end, but were held without a goal.
Both teams finished the match with ten shots, though Pacific proved to have more dangerous chances with eight on target to Whitworth's four.
Early in the second half, the Bucs had a quality look on goal when Hunter Lisowski headed the ball on net, but it was punched just over the bar. Shortly after, Pacific netted the game winning goal. A long free kick into the box was headed forward by Cole Affolter, finding the left foot of Zimmerman, who scored his third goal of the season.
Ralph Borromeo led Whitworth with three shots and Lucas Waarvick added two. Oliver Hart made his second straight start and tied a career-high with seven saves.
Zimmerman led the Pacific attack with three shots, two on goal. Kobi Miyamoto made four saves at goalkeeper.
The Pirate men will look for the first NWC win next weekend against George Fox and Willamette at Whitworth Soccer Field.
