SPOKANE, Wash. – Whitworth men's tennis claimed a 6-1 win over visiting University of Puget Sound in a Northwest Conference match on Saturday at Scotford Tennis Center.
The Pirates moved to 11-6 overall and 10-3 in conference play with their second win over the Loggers (1-16, 1-12 NWC) this season.
Whitworth secured the doubles point with a pair of wins to open the match. Matt Froslan and Henry Preacher came out on top of a competitive 7-5 battle in the No. 1 position. After a PS win on the No. 2 court, Ryan Ashley and Matthew Morrison came through with a 6-3 win to secure the point.
The Bucs won five of six singles matches. Ashley received a win by retirement in the No. 3 court early in the session against Reef Gelder. Froslan and Matt Hossack earned two dominant 6-0, 6-1 wins. Connor Judson clinched the match with another 6-1, 6-0 victory. Preacher, who extended his singles winning streak to seven, claimed a 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 three-set win over Gavin Dille.
Jason Rowe earned the long point for the Loggers with a hard-fought 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over Morrison on the No. 1 court.
The Pirate men will host Willamette on senior Sunday at 11:00 to close the regular season. Preacher and Colby Cinqmars will be recognized for their contributions to Whitworth men's tennis prior to first serve.
