TACOMA, Wash. – Whitworth men's tennis won their fifth straight match with a 5-2 win over Puget Sound in a Northwest Conference match on Saturday afternoon.
The Pirates (5-2 overall, 5-1 NWC) have won the last 21 contests with the Loggers (0-8, 0-6 NWC), who were held out of the win column.
Matt Froslan and Matt Hossack completed a dominant 6-0 win in the No. 2 match, but Puget Sound's No. 1 and No. 3 duos each came away with 6-4 wins to claim the doubles point.
Whitworth won five of six singles matches to secure the victory. Landon LaBrie played in his first conference match of the season from the No. 6 court and won 6-2, 6-0. Connor Judson won his sixth straight singles match with a two-set win (6-2, 6-3) and Hossack claimed his fifth straight victory (6-1, 6-1). Ryan Ashley grabbed his first win on the No. 2 court and Henry Preacher capped the match with a 7-5, 2-6, 7-6 (7-5) three-set victory.
Reef Gelder defeated Easton Weir 6-3, 6-4, in the No. 5 position to earn the second point for the Loggers.
The Bucs will look for their sixth straight win on Sunday at Willamette. First serve is at 11:00 am.
