SALEM, Ore. – Visiting Whitworth men's tennis rolled to a 6-1 win over Willamette on Sunday to cap the first half of the Northwest Conference schedule.
The Pirates (6-2 overall, 6-1 NWC) won their sixth consecutive match and 16th straight over the Bearcats (1-6, 1-6 NWC).
Connor Judson and Easton Weir got the match started with a 6-1 win in the No. 3 doubles match. After a Willamette win on the No. 1 court, Matt Froslan and Matt Hossack secured the first match point with a 6-2 win in the No. 2 position.
Whitworth won five of six singles matches. Weir, who again slotted in for Matthew Morrison, secured his first NWC win with a 6-0, 6-2 victory in the No. 5 position. Ryan Ashley secured his fourth consecutive singles win (6-2, 7-5) on the No. 2 court before Judson clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-1 win in the No. 3 position. Judson remained unbeaten (7-0) against NWC opponents. Preacher and Landon LaBrie capped the match with two more wins, Preacher's coming in three sets.
Willamette's Hudson Snyder ended Hossack's five-game singles winning streak with a competitive 7-6 (7-3), 5-7, 1-0 (10-8) three-set win in the No. 4 position.
The Bucs begin the second half of the NWC schedule with a rematch at Whitman next Saturday, March 14.
