SPOKANE, Wash. – Whitworth men's tennis resumed the second half of Northwest Conference play with a commanding 6-1 win over Pacific (Ore.) on Saturday at Scotford Tennis Center.
The Pirates moved to 8-4 overall and 7-2 in conference play with a series sweep of the Boxers (5-8, 5-5 NWC).
Pacific's Dawson Hose and Lucas Fuhrmann quickly earned a 6-0 in the No. 2 doubles position, but the Bucs responded with a pair of wins to claim the doubles point. Ryan Ashley and Henry Preacher claimed a 6-3 victory on the No. 1 court and Matthew Morrison and Connor Judson secured the point with a 6-2 win at No. 3.
Whitworth won five of single matches, including a trio of three-set battles. Ashley took down Hose 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 in the No. 3 position and Matt Hossack claimed a 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 win on the No. 6 court. Judson won a 3-6, 6-3, 5-4 hard-fought contest against Ryley Change by retirement. Morrison and Preacher each earned two-set wins in the top two singles positions.
The Pirate men will look to keep the momentum going against visiting Linfield on Sunday at 11:00 am.
