Pirate men sink Kingsmen 5-2

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Whitworth men's tennis ended its two-match trip to California with a 5-2 win over California Lutheran on Tuesday afternoon at Poulson Tennis Center.

The Pirates moved to 7-4 on the season and will resume Northwest Conference play on Saturday against Pacific (Ore.) in Spokane. The Kingsmen fell to 3-4.

CLU secured the first point of the match with two wins in a back-and-forth doubles session. Matthew Morrison and Connor Judson fell 6-2 on the No. 3 court before Matt Froslan and Matt Hossack grabbed a 7-5 win in the No. 2 spot to even the score. Ethan Sherwood and Maxence Faniel combined to defeat the top Whitworth pair and clinch the first match point.

The Bucs regrouped and secured the match victory with five singles wins. Morrison and Henry Preacher took care of their opponents in two sets to give the Bucs the advantage. Toki Adachi followed with a win over Ryan Ashley in the No. 3 position to pull the Kingsmen even, but Hossack put Whitworth up again with a hard-fought win in the No. 6 position. With the match up for grabs, Judson clinched it with a 6-0, 3-6, 6-4 three-set win on the No. 4 court. Froslan finished with a three-set tiebreaking win of his own to cap the match.
