REDLANDS, Calif. – Whitworth opened its two-match trip to California with a 5-2 loss to the University of Redlands in a non-conference men's tennis match on Monday evening.
The Pirates (6-4) won two singles matches while the Bulldogs (4-7) claimed the doubles point and four singles victories.
Redlands swept doubles, winning 6-1 on both the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles court. Connor Judson and Matthew Morrison fell 6-3 in the No. 3 position.
The Bulldogs clinched the match with three two-set singles wins. The Bucs followed with with a pair of three-set singles wins. The first came in the No. 2 position as Henry Preacher defeated his opponent 6-0, 4-6, 1-0. Matt Hossack dropped his first set 3-6 in the No. 6 position before taking the next two (6-4, 1-0) to secure another match point. Redlands capped the match with a three-set win on the No. 4 court.
The Whitworth men visit California Lutheran on Tuesday at 3 pm with the hopes of leaving the Golden State with a match win.
