SPOKANE, Wash. – Ada Carr and Madi Escobar scored four goals apiece to lead visiting Chapman University to a 19-8 win over Whitworth in a non-conference women's lacrosse match on Sunday afternoon at the Pine Bowl.
The Pirates (3-4) saw their two-game winning streak come to an end. The Panthers improved to 5-3 after the first-ever game between the west coast schools.
Chapman led 6-2 after one period, getting three of the goals from Brooke Bernstein. Campbell Vincent scored both of Whitworth's goals.
The second period was closer as the Panthers outscored the Bucs 4-3 to take a 10-5 lead into halftime. Four different players scored for Chapman and three different Pirates tallied goals.
After Kiera Paulus scored early in the third to get Whitworth within 10-6, Chapman put the game away by scoring the next six goals in the quarter. Carr and Escobar each scored back to back goals in the period for the Panthers.
Escobar was especially effective for Chapman, adding 11 draw controls to her goal total. Tade Scheid led the visitors with three assists.
Vincent finished with three goals and an assist for the Bucs. Kayla Jones made seven saves while playing all 60 minutes in goal for Whitworth.
Chapman outshot the Pirates 35-16. The Panthers dominated the draw control, winning 25 of the 30 draws.
Whitworth will travel to California for matches at Occidental and Cal Lutheran next week.
