SPOKANE, Wash. – For the second straight day, the Whitworth men's tennis team defeated a Northwest Conference opponent for the first time in a decade, this time the result was a 6-1 victory over George Fox on Sunday at Scotford Tennis Center.
The Pirates advanced to 4-1 in NWC play (4-2 overall) and extended their winning streak to four matches, their longest since 2017. The Bruins (3-3, 3-2 NWC) were held winless in their trip to Washington.
6-3 wins in the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles positions gave the Bucs the first match point. Ryan Ashley and Henry Preacher completed the doubles sweep with a 7-5 win over the top GFU pair.
Matt Froslan and Matt Hossack, who each went 2-0 in singles matches on the weekend, earned dominant wins in the No. 5 and No. 6 singles slots to put Whitworth in control. Preacher bounced back from yesterday's competitive loss with a 6-2, 6-2 win in the No. 2 position to clinch the Pirate match victory. Connor Judson remained unbeaten in NWC singles matches with a 6-0, 6-3 win in the No. 4 position. Ashley earned a 6-0, 6-4 in the No. 3 slot win to cap a historic weekend for the Whitworth men.
Zach Moore earned the lone George Fox point with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Matthew Morrison in the No. 1 match.
The Pirates will take their momentum on the road to Puget Sound and Willamette next weekend.
