WALLA WALLA, Wash. – The Whitworth men's golf team improved on the second day of the 2025 Northwest Conference Spring Classic, but not enough for the Pirates to gain ground on the leaders. The Bucs finished seventh out of nine teams at Wine Valley Golf Course on Sunday and Monday.
The Pirates shot 298 (+10) on Sunday and 295 (+7) on Monday to finish with a score of 593. Willamette built a big lead on the tournament's first day and held on to win by one stroke with a score of 578 (+2). The final team scores were Willamette 578, George Fox and Whitman 579, Lewis & Clark 582, Pacific Lutheran 590, Puget Sound 592, Whitworth 593, Linfield 596, Pacific (Ore.) 607.
The Bearcats have won both the NWC Fall Classic and the NWC Spring Classic and they hold a six-stroke lead over Whitman (1,140 – 1,146) heading into the Northwest Conference Tournament in two weeks. Whitworth is in sixth place with a score of 1,176, 36 strokes behind Willamette.
Gabe Cach led the Pirates with a two-day total of 75-71 – 146 (+2) to finish in a tie for 13th place. Willamette's Brock Olson earned medalist honors by one stroke over Puget Sound's Cade Streeter after posting a 68-72 (-4).
Sam Pauly finished 16th. He was even par after Sunday's round, but finished 72-75 – 147 (+3). Andy Hobson had a good second day, shooting 77-71 – 148 (+4) to tie for 22nd place. Jacob Rawley (75-78 – 153) finished 34th and Aaron Storem (76-79 – 155) was 36th.
The Pirates will warm up for the 2025 NWC Tournament by participating in the South Puget Sound Community College Invite this weekend in Tumwater.
