NEWBERG, Ore. – The Whitworth men's tennis team fell 6-1 to George Fox in a Northwest Conference match on Sunday afternoon.
The Bruins (10-6 overall, 10-2 NWC) earned their 10th conference win of the season, while the Pirates dropped to 5-12 overall and 5-7 in conference play.
The doubles decision went to GFU after wins in the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches. Ryan Ashley and Matthew Morrison fought to a 6-4 loss before Lance Dunn and Colby Cinqmars paired for a 6-0 defeat that clinched a Bruin point. Easton Weir and Matt Hossack earned a 6-4 win in the No. 3 position.
George Fox won five of six singles matches in two sets. Colby Cinqmars earned his third singles win of the season with a 6-2, 6-3 victory in the No. 6 position. Ashley and Hossack each had two-match winning streaks snapped.
The Whitworth men will have their final chance to fight for a NWC Tournament spot when they host Lewis & Clark and Puget Sound on April 12th and 13th.
