SPOKANE, Wash. – The Whitworth Pirates were taken down 5-2 by Lewis & Clark College in a Northwest Conference men's tennis match on Saturday afternoon at Scotford Tennis Center.
The Pirates fell out of contention for the NWC Tournament at 5-8 in conference play (5-14 overall) while the Pioneers advanced to 13-4 overall and 9-3 in the NWC.
L&C took the doubles point with wins in the first two matches by scores of 6-3. Colby Cinqmars and Lance Dunn got a win in third doubles match 6-3 in just the second contest played as a duo this season.
Four of six singles matches were won by the Pioneers in two sets. Ryan Ashley secured the first of two Pirate points with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Noah Sutin in the No. 2 position. Matt Hossack earned a 6-3, 6-4 win in the No. 4 position for the second Whitworth match point. Dunn competed in his second singles match of the season in the No. 6 position but fell 6-2, 6-4.
The Whitworth men close the season with a match against Puget Sound on Sunday at 11:00 am.
