Men's tennis downed by Pioneers 6-1

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Whitworth University men's tennis team fell 6-1 to Lewis & Clark in a Northwest Conference match on Saturday afternoon at the L&C Tennis Dome.

The Pioneers moved to 9-2 overall and 6-1 in the NWC, while the Pirates dropped to 2-5 overall and 2-4 in conference matches.

L&C won all three doubles matches to take the first point of the match. Lance Dunn competed in his first match of the season in the No. 1 doubles slot. Dunn and Matthew Morrison fell 6-1. Whitworth's Henry Preacher did not compete.

Morrison battled to a 7-6 (7-3) first set win before dominating the second set (6-0) to earn the lone Pirate point of the match. Ryan Ashey battled hard in his first match in the No. 2 position, but Joseph Lyon secured the Pioneer win with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 victory. Landon LaBrie fell 6-1, 6-4 (No. 6) in his first singles competition of the season.

Whitworth will head to Tacoma to battle Puget Sound on Sunday at 11:00 am.
