SPOKANE, Wash. –The shorthanded Eastern Washington Eagles earned a 6-0 win over the Whitworth Pirates in a non-conference men's tennis match on Saturday evening at Scotford Tennis Center.
The Pirates fell to 4-11 overall (4-5 NWC) in their second match of the day, while the Division I Eagles moved to 5-13.
EWU took the doubles decision with two wins. Ryan Ashley and Matthew Morrison fell 6-3 before Matt Froslan and Henry Preacher dropped the second match 6-1. A third doubles match was not played as the Eagles had just five available players.
Due to the shortage of EWU players, Colby Cinqmars was awarded a walkover win. The five singles matches went the Eagles' way in two sets. Ashley put up a good second set fight in a 6-1, 6-4 loss as did Matt Hossack (6-2, 6-4).
Whitworth will host Willamette at 11:00 am on Sunday before playing an exhibition match against Bellevue Community College at 4:00 pm.
