Women's tennis tops LeTourneau 5-2

LONGVIEW, Texas. – The Whitworth Pirates earned a 5-2 win in the first-ever meeting with LeTourneau University in a non-conference women's tennis match on Monday afternoon.

The Bucs moved to 5-6 overall (4-4 NWC) while the Yellowjackets fell to 5-9.

Whitworth took the doubles decision with three commanding wins. Clara Todd and Jordan Turner-Esposito finished first with a 6-0 victory in the No. 2 match. Audrey Judson and Olivia Corbett secured the point with a 6-3 win and Faith Kert and Gracie Smyley finished the doubles sweep 6-2.

Turner-Esposito earned the first Pirate singles victory and her first in the No. 3 position 6-4, 6-0. In the No. 2 spot, Kert battled to a 7-6 (7-1) first set win and took the second set 6-2 for the third Whitworth point. Judson clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-3 win in the No. 4 position. Morgan McArthur earned her second singles win of the season 6-3, 6-3 in the sixth position. LeTourneau's Isabella Casso narrowly defeated Smyley in three sets (7-5, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8) and Kylie Weeks beat Corbett 6-4, 6-4 for the two Yellowjacket points.

The Pirates visit East Texas Baptist on Tuesday at noon pacific time.
