Blues top Pirates in NWC championship match

WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Visiting Whitworth University fought hard but fell 4-0 to top-seeded Whitman in the 2026 Northwest Conference women's tennis tournament championship match on Sunday afternoon.

The Pirates finished the season at 15-7 overall and 12-2 in conference play. The Blues (19-5) earned the league's automatic bid to the NCAA DIII tournament.

Whitman claimed the first match point with wins on the top two doubles courts. Jordan Turner-Esposito and Paige Oliver fell 6-1 on the No. 2 court to Cloria Lau and Sascha Wells. Nana Vang and Renata Rosell defeated Faith Kert and Clara Todd 6-3 to secure the point.

The first three completed singles matches went the Blues' way. Vang, the 2026 NWC player of the year, earned a 6-1, 6-0 win over Oliver in the No. 1 position to begin the session. Olivia Corbett was defeated by Bailey Bell 6-3, 6-0 on the No. 5 court. Lau then clinched the title for Whitman with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Josie Kellogg in the No. 6 position.

After a historic season, the Pirate women will be back in action next fall.
