SPOKANE, Wash. – The Whitworth University track & field teams took advantage of their second consecutive home meet on Thursday and Friday at the Whitworth Pine Bowl, posting a host of personal records at the Buc Scoring Invite.
Both the men and the women finished second among eight competing schools.
The Pirates claimed two event victories in the meet, including the women's 4x100-meter relay with a mark of 50.47.
Marlee Paget, who ran a leg of the 4x100-meter relay, ran a 1:02.13 personal record in the 400-meter for a third-place finish.
Jordyn Lungo placed second in both the 100-meter (12.52) and 200-meter (26.55) dash.
Grace Weeda was runner-up (18.33) in the 100-meter hurdles (18.33) and Margaret Byle also finished second (1:08.96) in the 400-meter hurdles.
Lulu Brady (4:56.79) and Kezlie Thygesen (18:29.85) both set new personal records in the 1,500-meter and 5,000-meter, respectively.
In the field, a trio of Pirate women set best marks in the long jump. Shaloma McCay set a season best 15'-8.75" mark while Mallory Elliott (15'-4.25") and Madeleine Froese (15'-4") each set new personal records.
Madison Carr finished second in the shot put with a 42'-4.25" personal record throw.
On the men's side, Cam Schmidt led the Pirates with personal records in both the 100-meter (11.20) and 200-meter (22.40) dash. Both times were good for fifth place.
Zaanan Bane placed second in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.73.
In the 800-meter, Tommy Wirth (2:00.31) and Alex McIntyre (2:01.27) each ran personal best times. Wirth placed seventh and McIntyre placed ninth.
James Dugenet placed second in the 3000-meter steeplechase (9:44.34) and Nick Baker set a personal record 10:07.67 (fifth place) in the same event.
Isaac Akiyama finished third in the 5,000-meter with a personal best 15:32.97 mark.
In the field, Richard Alsept secured the second Whitworth event win with a 6'-1.25" mark in the high jump.
Eddie Vu placed second in the discus (159') and threw a season best 48'-2.75" in the shot put, good for third place. Luke Davis was close behind with a fourth place 47'-8" shot put mark.
The Pirates finished 1-2-3 in the long jump. JJ Martin (20'-10") took first, Manny Valencia (20'-3") placed second and Bane (20'-0.5") finished third.
Whitworth will look to set even better marks on Saturday, March 29th at the UPS Shotwell-Peyton Invitational in Tacoma.
