SPOKANE, Wash. – The Whitworth University men's tennis team fell 5-2 to George Fox in a Northwest Conference match at Scotford Tennis Center on Sunday.
The Bruins moved to 4-2 overall and 4-1 in the NWC, while the Pirates dropped to 2-4 and 2-3 in conference matches.
Whitworth secured the doubles point with wins in the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches. Matt Froslan and Ryan Ashley battled to a 7-6 (8-6) win. Matt Hossack and Easton Weir got it done 6-2 in the third match. Both Pirate pairs are now on a three-match winning streak.
Henry Preacher extended his singles match winning streak to four with a 6-3, 6-4 win the No. 2 singles slot for the second and final Whitworth point. Three of the six singles matches included a set tiebreaker, but none went the Pirate's way. Matthew Morrison fell in a second set tiebreaker (6-4, 7-6 (7-4)) as did Ashley (6-3, 7-6 (7-5)). Froslan fought to a 6-6 (7-4) tiebreaking loss in the first set of the No. 5 match before falling in the second set.
Whitworth will visit Lewis & Clark on March 8th and Puget Sound on March 9th.
