Short-handed Pirates fall to LCSC

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Whitworth men's tennis team fell 6-1 to Lewis-Clark State College in a non-conference match on Sunday afternoon at Scotford Tennis Center.

The Warriors (8-7) grabbed their second win over the Pirates this season, who were down their top two players and fell to 3-7 overall (3-5 NWC).

LCSC swept the doubles matches to claim the first match point. Ryan Ashley and Matt Froslan paired in the No. 1 position in the absence of Matthew Morrison and Henry Preacher. The pair fell 6-1 to the Warrior top duo. Matt Hossack and Easton Weir battled in the No. 2 match but fell 7-5.

The lone Pirate point came in the No. 1 singles position held by Ashley for the first time this season. Ashley dropped the first set 6-1, then stormed back and wore down his opponent 7-5, 6-1 over the next two sets to steal the win. Lance Dunn and Emmanuel Nguyen each competed in their first singles matches of the season. Dunn fell 6-2, 6-4 in the No. 5 match and Nguyen was defeated 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 6 position.

Whitworth will travel to Texas next week for a three-game non-conference trip. The Bucs will first look get back in the win column against LeTourneau on March 24th.
