SPOKANE, Wash. – The Whitworth University men's tennis team earned its second consecutive win with a 6-1 victory over Linfield in a Northwest Conference tennis match on Saturday afternoon at Scotford Tennis Center.
The Pirates advanced to 2-2 in NWC play (2-3 overall), while the Wildcats fell to 1-4 overall and 1-3 in the NWC.
Linfield won the No. 1 doubles match, but Whitworth got it done in the second and third matches to claim the doubles points. Matt Froslan and Ryan Ashley won the No. 2 match 6-4. Matt Hossack and Easton Weir won the third match 6-0. Both pairings earned their second consecutive match victories.
Whitworth won five of six singles matches. Matthew Morrison won his third match of the season in the No. 1 singles slot 6-4, 6-1. After starting the season 0-2 in singles, Henry Preacher has won three matches in a row, including a 6-4, 6-1 win today in the No. 2 match. Abhi Acharya won the lone point for the Wildcats, defeating Froslan in a tight No. 5 match 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (8-6).
Whitworth will host George Fox on Sunday at 11:00am.
