SPOKANE, Wash. – Personal records abounded for the Whitworth Pirates on Friday and Saturday at the Riverfront Invitational indoor track and field meet at the Podium.
The positive results began on Friday evening for Whitworth with the distance medley relays. The women's relay of Lulu Brady, Marlee Paget, Lily Jones and Ashlyn Dary posted a time of 12:53.97, the second-fastest in school history and currently the #17 time in NCAA Division III. Similarly, the men's relay of London Haley, Logan Noble, JJ Martin and Jake Ireton went 10:39.34. It is the second-fastest time for the men and currently the #22 time in Division III.
On Saturday Brianna Tira and Isabella Pereira got things off to a fast start for the Pirates, literally, with a pair of PRs in the women's 60-meter dash. Tira went 8.04 while Pereira posted an 8.08. Pereira went on to add a PR in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.77.
Highlights on the track for the Pirate men included Zaanan Bane's 8th-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles with a personal record time of 8.53.
Ireton followed up his anchor leg on the DMR with a PR of 4:21.67 in the men's mile. James Dugenet led a trio of Pirate PRs in the men's 3,000 meters in 8:56.25.
There were also several strong performances in field events. Breeanne Rawls cleared 5'-0.25" in the high jump, while Evie Bradbury cleared 10'-8.75" in the pole vault.
For the men's Richard Alsept high jumped 6'-2.75" for a PR, while Jared McCrory and Andrew Strawn both posted marks of 14'-0.5" in the pole vault.
Bane came up big again with a sixth-place finish in the triple jump, establishing a season-best distance of 44'-11.5".
Next weekend the Pirates will host the Whitworth Invitational at the podium.
