Box Score SPOKANE, Wash. – The Whitworth University women's tennis team fell 6-1 to defending Northwest Conference champion Whitman on Saturday afternoon its first match at Scotford Tennis center this season.
The Pirates (0-1 NWC) suffered their second loss of the young season while the Blues moved to 3-1 and 1-0 to open NWC play.
Whitworth's #1 pairing of Faith Kert and Gracie Smyley took down the top Whitman pairing 6-1. Audrey Judson and Paige Oliver fought their way to a 6-4 victory in the #2 match to earn the doubles point. Clara Todd and Olivia Corbett narrowly fell 6-4 in the third pairing.
The Blues won all six singles matches, five of which in two sets. Judson won the first set of her match 6-2 in the fifth slot, but fell in the second and third (6-2, 1-0).
Whitworth will hit the court again on February 22nd against Pacific (Ore.) before hosting Willamette on February 23rd. Each match will begin at 10:00am at Scotford Tennis Center.
