SPOKANE, Wash. – Whitworth University posted several big performances on Friday and Saturday at its own indoor track and field invitational at The Podium.
Izzy Carpenter continued the streak of at least one indoor school record broken at every meet over the last two seasons with her mark of 49'-1.5" in the weight throw. She surpassed the previous mark of 48'-5.5" set by Dakota Kliamovich in 2014.
Isabella Pereira had one of the most productive weekends for the Pirates, taking fourth in the long jump (17'-0.25"), fourth in the triple jump (35'-10.5") and 27th in the 200-meter dash (26.41).
Other strong field events for Whitworth's women included Amblessed Okemgbo's third place finish in the shot put (43'-5.75") . Izzy Boyd was right behind Okemgbo, sixth in the shot put (41'-0.5").
Cadence Lorenz cleared 5'-0.5" for her PR in the high jump, and Evie Bradbury did likewise in the pole vault (11'-5.75"). Bradbury's mark was less than an inch off the school record.
On the track, Ashlyn Dary (10:59.38) and Keslie Thygesen (11:03.31) both posted personal records in the women's mile.
London Haley had the best finish for Whitworth's men, taking second in the 3,000-meter run with a personal record time of 8:45.36. Alex Peters went 4:23.71 in the men's mile and Camden Schmidt sprinted to a 22.69 in the 200 dash.
Richard Alsept high jumped 6'-4.75" while Eddie Vu tossed the shot 49'-2.5". Both finished seventh individually in large fields.
The indoor season is over for most of the Pirate student-athletes. A few have a chance to go on and competed at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships on March 14-15 in Rochester, N.Y.
Whitworth will open the outdoor track and field season in two weekends at the Ed Boitano Invitational, hosted by the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma.
