WALLA WALLA, Wash. – The visiting Whitworth University men's tennis team fell 7-0 to the Whitman Blues on Saturday afternoon.
The Blues (1-1) got their first win of the season while the Pirates dropped to 0-2.
Whitman took the doubles decision with two wins in the first two finished matches. Ryan Ashley and Matt Froslan combined for their first win of the season and lone Pirate victory in the #2 doubles match 6-4. Henry Preacher and Matthew Morrison fought in the #1 match but lost 6-4.
The Blues won all six singles matches. Morrison took his opponent to a high-scoring third set and narrowly fell 6-4, 4-6, 13-11. Matt Hossack battled in the #6 singles match before a one-point loss in set two (6-3, 7-6).
Whitworth will head to Pacific (Ore.) on February 22nd before playing Willamette on February 23rd.
