Whitworth men lose battle of Pirates 2-0

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – For the second game in a row the Whitworth offense struggled to find its footing, this time in a 2-0 loss to Southwestern University in a non-conference men's soccer match played at Trinity University.

The battle between Pirates went to the Texas squad after it outshot Whitworth 24-3, including a 12-0 edge in shots on-goal.  Trinity outshot Whitworth 22-3 on Friday night.

Whitworth kept the match scoreless through the first 77 minutes despite the stats heavily in favor on Southwestern.  Greyson Pinto scored unassisted in the 78th minute for the match's first goal. Michael Grimm added an insurance goal ten minutes later.

Dax Flanders made ten saves during his first start in goal for Whitworth.  Tucker Jackson did not have to make a save for Southwestern.

Whitworth will return home to host its alumni in a match next weekend.  The Pirates will open Northwest Conference action the following weekend against George Fox and Pacific (Ore.).
