HELENA, Mont. – Cole Friesen scored in the 80th minute to lift visiting Whitworth to a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over Carroll College in a non-conference men's soccer match on Saturday afternoon at Nelson Stadium.
The Pirates improved to 2-0 after a sweep of their season-opening weekend in Montana. The game counted as an exhibition contest for the Saints (0-1).
Neither team scored in the first half. Whitworth kept the first period scoreless despite being on the short end of a 4-1 count in shots.
Carroll scored less than three minutes into the second period when Justus Hermann tallied from an assist by Adam Webster.
Kincaid Sund scored his first goal as a Pirate in the 55th minute to tie the match. Christian Waarvick had the assist.
Friesen scored the winner, his third goal of the weekend, in the 80th minute. Clayton Crockett had the assist, his third of the weekend.
Second half shots were even at four apiece. Aiden Chase played the entire match in goal for the Bucs and got his first victory of the season. He made four saves.
Whitworth will return to action next weekend in San Antonio, Texas with contests against Trinity and Southwestern.
