Women's tennis hosts GFU in NWC finale

SPOKANE, Wash. –- Whitworth women's tennis returns from Orlando on a three-match win streak, and they'll look to clinch a birth in the Northwest conference tournament with a win over George Fox on Saturday in the conference finale.

The Pirates: Whitworth (9-6, 4-2 NWC) recovered from a lopsided loss against Union last week and rattled off three straight wins to finish the trip. The Pirates currently sit in fourth place in the NWC standings. Jordan Turner-Esposito (7-5) leads Whitworth in singles wins to this point, she's 1-1 in the #3 spot and 6-4 in the #4 spot. Gracie Smyley (6-7) has been in the #1 spot all year in singles, and paired up with Clara Todd for a 5-5 record in the top doubles spot. As a team, the Pirates are 37-40 in singles and 22-17 in doubles.

The Opponent: George Fox (10-4, 3-0 NWC) still has four conference matches remaining, but they are currently in second place behind Whitman (4-0). The Bruins are led by Kalli Walker who's played in the top singles spot all season, she is 6-8 (3-2 against conference opponents). Riley Bobkiewicz has been Walker's doubles partner, that duo is 11-3 on the year and won 10 of its last 11. George Fox is coached by Rick Cruz who's been with the program since its birth in 1996.

The coach: Rachel Aldridge is in her tenth season as coach of the women's program, but she's been with the program since her played days from 2008-2011. Aldridge was a four-time first team All-Northwest Conference honoree and was voted as NWC Player of the Year as a senior in 2011. She's led Whitworth to the conference tournament as a coach numerous times.
