Men's Tennis sweeps singles in 6-3 win over St. Olaf

ORLANDO, Fla. – Whitworth men's tennis will leave Florida on a high note after securing a 6-3 win over St. Olaf on Thursday's match at the UTSA campus in Orlando.

The Pirates (4-10, 2-2 NWC) had lost three matches this week including two by a 5-4 margin, but they would not be denied today as they handed the Oles (2-9, 1-3 MIAC) their fifth straight loss.

Whitworth got off to a slow start dropping all three doubles matches, but they completely turned the match over rattling off six wins to sweep singles.

Colby Cinqmars got the avalanche started beating #5 Max Loesch 6-3, 6-0. Henry Preacher took care of #3 Jakub Belik 6-2, 6-2 before #6 Matt Froslan handled Ben Anderson 6-1, 6-2 to tie things up. In the top half of the rotation, #4 Jess Weaver added a fourth two-set win for Whitworth against Cathal Mee 6-4, 6-3. Ethan Warring survived the only three-set match against Marjan Veldic 7-6 (7-4), 6-3, 1-0 (10-5) before #1 Nathan Tjelle wrapped it up against Vizoli Bogdan 7-6 (8-6), 7-6 (7-1).

The Pirates will hope to ride that momentum into the home stretch of conference play where they sit in the middle of the league. Wins against Pacific, George Fox, and Willamette could propel them into the conference tournament in the first year under coach Daniel Redfern.
