ORLANDO, Fla. – Whitworth men's tennis dropped it first match of the week in Orlando in an 8-1 loss to Union on Monday at the USTA campus.
The Pirates (3-8, 2-2 NWC) won the first match of the day but lost the next eight. The top duo of Henry Preacher and Nathan Tjelle got an 8-6 win over Union's top pair. The #3 duo of Colby Cinqmars and Jess Weaver nearly got a win but fell 8-7 (7-5) to Daniel Saxe and Seth Prusko.
Union won all but one of the singles matches in just two sets, the only exception was Preacher's three set loss to Keita Fukushima 6-3, 7-6, 7-0.
Whitworth will be back in action for its second of four matches this week against Augustana. The match will kick off at 4 p.m. eastern time.
