Pirate men show potent attack in 7-2 win over Bearcats

SALEM, Ore. – Five first half goals propelled Whitworth to a 7-2 win over Willamette in a Northwest Conference men's soccer match on Saturday afternoon.

The Pirates' seven goals are a game high this season as they moved to 9-6-2 overall and 7-4-2 in the NWC. The Bearcats fell to (4-8-5, 4-5-4).  

Beckett Arthur got the scoring for the Pirates in the fourth minute off an assist from Clayton Crockett. Jordan Voigt would score five minutes later off an assist from Christian Waarvick. In the 23rd minute, Cameron Gardner added to the scoring by heading in a pass from Cole Friesen. Cole Friesen added to his stellar season with a goal in the 27th minute and the 44th minute for his 10th and 11th on the season.

Friesen's 38 career goals are now tied for the most in Whitworth men's soccer history.

In the second half, Cole Friesen capitalized off a turnover and sent the ball forward to Jordan Voigt who scored his second of the game. Dawson Heuett would score the Pirates seventh goal of the match with a one-timer into the corner of the net. Willamette would add two goals in the second half from Krisna LaFrance and Sean Kim.

The Bearcats would finish the match with a 23-10 advantage in total shots, while Whitworth with a 10-9 advantage in shots on-goal. Aiden Chase made seven saves for the Pirates.

Whitworth will look to win their fourth match in a row when they visit Lewis & Clark on Sunday.
