SPOKANE, Wash. – Two first half goals gave Whitworth a 2-0 win over visiting Linfield in a Northwest Conference men's soccer match on Saturday afternoon.
The Pirates moved to 8-6-2 overall and 6-4-2 in the NWC as they swept the season series with the Wildcats (2-12-2, 1-9-2).
Whitworth capitalized on a set piece in the 18th minute when Jordan Voigt headed in a corner kick from Dominic Gusman for his second goal of the season. Beckett Arthur put the Pirates up by two in the 28th minute after following up a blocked shot from Christian Waarvick.
The Pirates finished the match with a 12-10 edge in shots but proved to have a more dangerous attack with an 8-3 advantage in shots on goal. Aiden Chase made three saves for the Pirates, all coming in the first half.
Whitworth coach Kevin Moon was excited for his team after their second win in a row. "The guys are focused and energized in training and it's showing up" Moon said. "We are hoping to build on this momentum going into the final road trip."
Whitworth will look to get their third consecutive win when they visit Willamette on Saturday.
