FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Whitworth controlled the ball and had the shots, but Pacific got the goals in a 2-0 win over the visiting Pirates in a Northwest Conference men's soccer match on Saturday afternoon.
Whitworth fell to 6-5-2 overall and 4-3-2 in the NWC after a second consecutive loss. The Boxers improved to 7-6-1, 5-4-1 NWC.
The Pirates finished with 54% of the possession, most of which (72%) was on Pacific's side of the field. Whitworth had a 10-5 edge in total shots, including a 5-4 edge in shots on-goal.
The Boxers got the opening goal in the 32nd minute when Garrett Heuett scored his third of the season from an assist by Brodie Buchert. Pacific added the insurance goal in the 67th minute when Gregory Wheeler scored his first of the year unassisted.
Aiden Chase made a pair of saves in goal for Whitworth. Zach Aderinto stopped five shots to insure the shutout for Pacific.
Whitworth will return to action with a match at George Fox on Sunday.
