Box Score PORTLAND, Ore. – The match scores were closer, but the visiting Pirates lost by the same 9-0 margin on Sunday at Lewis & Clark as they did on Saturday at Linfield in Northwest Conference women's tennis action.
The Pirates fell to 4-5 overall, 1-3 in the NWC while the Pioneers improved to 4-6, 2-2.
L&C swept the three doubles matches, including 8-4 wins at #1 and #3. Kara Nelson and Meredith Bedford fell 8-7 (7-5) to Arielle Bloom and Hayley Kreps at #2 doubles.
Nelson was also involved in the closest singles match, and the only one to go more than two sets. She won the opening set, but eventually fell 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 to Bloom at #3 singles. Susanna Anand defeated Whitworth's Gracie Smyley 6-4, 6-1 at the top of the ladder. Kreps got by Bedford 6-2, 6-4 at #5 singles.
The Pirates will host Lewis-Clark State next Sunday before heading to Texas the following weekend for their spring break trip (March 25-30).
