SPOKANE, Wash. – Defending champion George Fox dominated on both ends of the field in a 24-5 win over Whitworth during a Northwest Conference women's lacrosse match on Sunday afternoon at the Whitworth Pine Bowl.
The Bruins improved to 6-0 overall and 6-0 in the NWC while the Pirates fell to 3-6, 2-4.
George Fox outshot Whitworth 42-12, including a 33-10 advantage in shots on-goal. The Bruins had 17 ground balls to nine for the Bucs and caused 21 turnovers while committing only 11.
The first period was relatively competitive as the Pirates stayed within 7-3 at the end of one. But GFU outscored the Bucs 8-0 in the second and 6-0 in the third to go up 21-3 heading to the fourth period.
Five different players scored goals for Whitworth, while Kenzie Hemman had the Pirates' only two assists in the match. She also led the team with three round balls and two caused turnovers.
Ava Blum led the Bruins with five goals, while Carleigh DeLapp finished with two goals and eight assists for a team-high 10 points. Kyra Barnes and Olivia Geyling scored four goals apiece for GFU. The Bruins' highly efficient office finished with 16 assists on 24 goals.
Whitworth played its final home match of the season and recognized seniors Liliann Penfield and Madison Miller prior to the game and Penfield scored an early goal. The Pirates play all remaining matches of 2023 on the road, beginning with next weekend at Linfield and Pacific (Ore.).
