SPOKANE, Wash. – Visiting Willamette pulled away for a 16-7 win over Whitworth in a Northwest Conference women's lacrosse match on Saturday afternoon at the Whitworth Pine Bowl.
It was the fourth straight setback for the Pirates (3-5, 2-3). Lily Bachiochi had nine points for the Bearcats (6-1, 4-1) on three goals and six assists.
Whitworth hung around in the first half. The Pirates scored three straight goals, including one in the final seconds of the first quarter by Sierra Witte and one in the opening seconds of the second period by Caitlin Smith, to go ahead 5-4.
Willamette scored five straight goals to go up 9-5 early in the third period. After leading 7-5 at halftime, the Bearcats outscored the Pirates 9-2 in the second half.
Tati Klenk had five goals and an assist for Willamette, while Catie Kawamura chipped in four goals. The Bearcats finished with a 29-24 edge in total shots and a 23-18 advantage in shots on-goal. Shelby Sawyer stopped 11 shots in goal.
Nikki Beers joined Witte with a pair of goals for Whitworth. Witte and Kenzie Hemman each had five of the Bucs' 13 draw controls.
The Pirates will play its final home match of the season on Sunday when the Bucs host George Fox.
