PLU rallies past Pirate men 3-1

PARKLAND, Wash.— The Pacific Lutheran Lutes stormed back with three second half goals to defeat the visiting Whitworth Pirates 3-1 on Saturday afternoon.

The Pirates (3-3-2 overall, 1-1-1 NWC) struck first with a goal from forward Tyler Wisen after a pass from Christian Pumpelly in the 10th minute.

Midfielder Sammy Tafolla scored the equalizer for the Lutes (7-1 overall, 2-1 NWC) in the 54th minute. Trevor Thompson and Robby Guyer were credited with assists.

The Lutes struck again in the 66th minute to take a 2-1 lead on a goal from Guyer.  Thompson got his second assist of the match.

Craig Johnson found the top right corner of the net to give the Lutes the 3-1 win over the Pirates late in the 89th minute. Keaton Heggerness assisted.

The Lutes outshot the Pirates 24-6 in total shots taken and 8-5 in shots on goal.

Pirates goalkeeper Aiden Chase had three saves in 90 minutes played. Nicholas Gaston had four for the Lutes.

The Pirates will play next in Tacoma, Washington against the University of Puget Sound on Sunday at 2:30 PM.
