SPOKANE, Wash.— The Whitworth Pirates fought to a 2-2 draw with the visiting George Fox Bruins in a Northwest Conference men's soccer match on Sunday afternoon.
The Bruins (1-3-2 overall, 0-0-2 NWC) struck first with a goal from Robert Rodarte after a cross from Kyle Revell in the 9th minute.
Jaime Rodriguez found the equalizer for the Pirates (3-2-2, 1-0-1) in the 11th minute off a pass from Beckett Arthur.
The Whitworth goalkeeper was unable to secure a long pass, leading to an open net goal by the Bruin's Eugene Peltier in the 32nd minute to give George Fox the 2-1 advantage.
Rodriguez's second goal of the match found the top left corner of the box in the 71st minute to force the 2-2 draw.
The Pirates had opportunities to get the win, outshooting the Bruins 16-6 in total shots and 6-5 in shots on goal, but could not connect.
Aiden Chase had three saves in 90 minutes played for the Pirates. Cade Matsumoto had four in 90 minutes for the Bruins.
Whitworth will play next in Parkland, Washington against Pacific Lutheran University on Saturday at 2:30 PM.
