COLLEGE PLACE, Wash.— Beckett Arthur posted a hat trick as the Whitworth's men's soccer team defeated Walla Walla University 4-1 on the road on Wednesday evening, the Pirates' second victory of the season over the Wolves.
For the second time this season, the teams were tied at the half before Whitworth (2-2-1) pulled away from Walla Walla (0-2) in the second half.
Pedro Reyes had the first and only goal for the Wolves (0-2) in the 37th minute.
Arthur's header found the back of the net in the 42nd minute to even the score off of Liam McGehee's corner kick.
Arthur added two more goals within sixteen seconds of each other in the 54th minute to give the Pirates a 3-1 lead. Jett Manglona scored the Pirates' final goal of the match in the 83rd minute.
The Pirates were aggressive offensively, outshooting the Wolves 32-8 in total and 17-4 in shots on goal.
Pirate goalkeeper Aiden Chase was credited with three saves in 90 minutes played. Diego Molina got 13 saves in 90 minutes played for the Wolves.
The Pirates will play next at home Saturday against Pacific (Ore.) at 2:30 PM to open NWC play.
